Spill Training Exercises
Each year MPOSC puts on a training exercise. This is a free hands on exercise for all MPOSC members. It teaches members how to use the equipment as well as gives some ideas as to effectively clean up a spill on water.

2025 Spill Exercise - Angel's Dam
Our 2025 spill exercise was held at Angel's Dam. This still water exercise featured the standard procedure of equipment set up and deployment.
2024 Spill Exercise - Coulter Park
In 2024 our spill exercise was held at Coulter Park, Antler River, Two Borders, MB, just south of Melita. This was a moving water exercise. Equipment was deployed near the intersection of the Antler River and one of its tributaries. A line of boom was situated adjacent to the bank receiving the greatest force of the river current. Another line of boom was run across the river to form a 'V' with the shore protecting boom. It was held in place by the anchor points set up on each side of the river, as well as by ropes attached at various points. Once connected with the skimmer and pump, peat moss was introduced at the far reach of the boom, functioning as a simulated oil spill.

2023 Spill Exercise - Angel's Dam
Our 2023 Spill Exercise took the form of a still water exercise on the lake at Angel's Dam. During this still water exercise, teams were formed to assemble and manage the boat, boom, skimmer, ropes and pump. Windier conditions in the afternoon posed a greater challenge to boom alingment.
In 2019 our training exercise took place at Angel's Dam. The participants took part in a spill response scenario on still water with high winds.

In 2018 the weather did not cooperate and our exercise was moved to the TEML yard. The participants took part in a dry land exercise conducted by Matrix Solutions Inc which went over how to effectively use the MPOSC equipment in two different types of spill situations.

In previous years when the weather has cooperated we have been able to conduct our training exercise at Angels Dam. The following are a few pictures of our members using the equipment during one of these excercises.
